Every man should know how to cook. Not only is it healthier and cheaper than eating out all the time, you can impress friends, family, and your significant other with your kitchen/grilling skills. This is the first of many recipes that I will share on TGO.
To start, lets get into one of the spring and summer time favorites: ribs. There are different types of ribs and many different ways to cook them.
I prefer baby back ribs and have cooked them in the oven, on the grill, and on a Traeger.
This recipe provides directions for cooking on a Traeger. My favorite type of pellets to use with pork is cherry wood, apple wood, or a fruit tree wood blend. Here are a couple pellet options to get you started (click the photo to buy from Amazon).
Directions
- Lets make the rub:
- 1 TBSP cumin
- 1 TBSP paprika
- 1 TBSP granulated garlic (garlic powder)
- 1 TBSP granulated onion (onion powder)
- 1 TBSP chili powder
- 1 TBSP brown sugar
- 2 TBSP salt
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon white pepper
- Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix well.
- Turn on Traeger and pre-heat to 180-degrees Fahrenheit.
- Remove ribs from packaging and pat dry with paper towels.
- Place ribs on baking sheet or large cutting board.
- Liberally spread the mixed rub recipe on all sides of the ribs. You shouldn’t see any raw meat poking through. The rub should cover the entire rack. (If you have leftover rub, save it for next time or use it on another rack of ribs.)
- Now that the Traeger is warmed up, insert a meat thermometer in the middle of the ribs and place the ribs on the grill. Traeger makes it super easy for you and allows you to connect your thermometer directly to the grill for easy temperature management.
- Cook the ribs until the internal temperature is 160-165 degrees. This should take 3-4 hours.
- Once the ribs reach 160-165 degrees, remove them from the grill and set the grill temperature to 350 degrees.
- Place a large piece of aluminum foil on the counter and spread 1/4 cup of your favorite BBQ sauce on the foil.
- After applying the sauce, put the rack of ribs meat-side down on the sauce and wrap the ribs tightly in the aluminum foil. Repeat with each rack.
- Place the ribs back on the grill for 40-45 minutes, or until internal temperature is 204 degrees.
- Remove ribs from grill and let rest for 10-15 minutes before cutting.
- Serve and enjoy!
Final Results
I use this recipe every time I make ribs and it never fails. Look at how they turned out the last time I made them. They are mouth-watering good!
The Traeger Grill Experience
My ribs results are significantly more consistent since I started using a Traeger Grill. Traegers are very easy to use, self-regulate temperature, and impart a great smoky flavor a regular propane grill cannot provide. I make a variety of foods on my Traeger, including roasted vegetables, roasted potatoes, chili, and more. Traeger has many options for all price points and levels of cooking. Currently, I have a Traeger Ironwood 650, which falls in their mid-range offering.
